Carrying Baby in a Sling

This is baby Sam at 4 months old in the Maya Wrap sling (asleep).

I could never do this without a sling!  :-)

We follow the practices of Attachment Parenting.  One big part of that is wearing or carrying your baby throughout the day.  This not only makes things simpler for the mother, but it is incredibly beneficial for the baby.   We do not use mother replacements, such as pacifiers, bottles, or baby swings.   Mother is alive, and full of love.  The baby can tell the difference.  Mothers have arms and breasts for a reason.  This is where babies long to be.  When not with a parent, a baby feels empty and alone, and has no way of knowing that anyone will ever return to free him from the lifeless bed he has been laid in.

Please do not allow a baby's cries to go unanswered.  Some people apparently let their child cry to sleep, trying to teach them something.  This is awful!  All it teaches them is that they are alone; they begin to believe that they unworthy of being parented.  When a child finally stops crying it is out of exhaustion.  And if, after a while, a baby begins to cry less before going to sleep, it only means that he has learned to give up hope that someone will come and end this intolerable pain and loneliness that he is experiencing.

Why not just carry the child with you?  Let him sleep against you in a sling.  Take him to bed with you at night.   Save your child from ever having to feel alone.  He will be a more secure person, and, contrary to popular belief, more independent when the time comes.

Continuum Concept Principles

Even at 21 months (and with a pregnant mom), Alex still loved to be in the sling.
This is the New Native Sling.  It is the same design as the Maya Wrap Pouch.

Alex knows the joys of being carried around and now enjoys carrying his own baby.
